DUBAI: The UAE confirmed 378 new coronavirus cases overnight after conducting over 52,527 additional tests, state news agency WAM reported.
The health ministry reported that 265 patients have recovered from the illness, bringing the total recovered cases to 35,834 from the country’s caseload of 47,360.
One death was also recorded overnight, taking total fatalities to 311.
“Since completion of the National Disinfection Programme, the relevant authorities have observed a significant increase in the number violations of the preventative measures,” Salem Al-Zaabi, Acting Director of the Federal Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Prosecution, said.
Among the violations include not maintaining social distancing, not wearing face masks and organizing gatherings in public and private places.
Al-Zaabi said the public must wear medical or cotton masks in all closed places, public and private means of transport and malls as well as while walking in densely populated open areas.
He also called for wearing masks at workplaces and when moving from one place to another inside labor camps, and maintaining social distance in public places, malls, restaurants, swimming pools and beaches, and other similar venues.
Patients with coronavirus must stay at home, as well as conducting repeating tests and downloading the TraceCovid app, Al-Zaabi said. “Failing to abide by these rules will result in legal action and fines.”
“As per the Attorney General’s decision, the fine will be doubled for those found to be repeating the violation. Third time offenders will be subject to legal action and could face imprisonment for a period of up to six months and an increased fine of Dh100,000,” he said.
