11-Year-Old Arrested, Allegedly Wrote “Kill List”

An 11-year-old boy, Karson Curry, was recently arrested and “perp walked” into jail by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office in Florida after allegedly creating a “kill list” targeting individuals at his school. The Sheriff’s Office released footage of the incident and stated that Curry faces a felony charge for making a written threat to kill. Despite a recent decrease in school threats, Sheriff Chitwood emphasized the serious consequences of such actions, reinforcing that they will lead to felony charges.

The incident in Volusia County highlights the ongoing concern surrounding school safety and the legal ramifications for students who make threats. While overall school crime has decreased between 1995 and 2019, data from the National Center for Education Statistics shows that threats and violence continue to be a concern. Law enforcement agencies and school districts are working to address and investigate all credible threats, underscoring a zero-tolerance approach to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.
