Twelve-year-old Sophia Forchas, a victim of the Annunciation Catholic Church shooting, has returned to school to a warm welcome from her classmates after what her family describes as a “miraculous” recovery. Sophia, who was shot in the head and placed in a medically induced coma, underwent a procedure where the left side of her skull was removed to alleviate brain swelling. Doctors, according to CBS News, were reportedly astonished by her progress, as her survival was initially deemed unlikely.
Sophia’s family attributes her recovery to faith, stating she was saved by “the mercy and intervention of our Lord Jesus Christ.” They expressed their gratitude to the medical staff at Hennepin Healthcare at HCMC, their extended family, the Orthodox Church, the Annunciation school community, friends, colleagues, and the numerous individuals who offered prayers. The family conveyed their heartfelt thanks to everyone involved, emphasizing that Sophia’s progress is due to “God’s will” and acknowledging the power of prayer.
