Iranians in United States: a history
Students came before 1979, exiles from 1979, and skilled migrants after them. The largest community is in Los Angeles: Westwood, called Tehrangeles, the Persian Jews of Beverly Hills and the Armenian-Iranians of Glendale. Others live in the Bay Area, the Washington DC area, Houston and New York’s Great Neck. The community faced stigma after the 1979 to 1981 hostage crisis, and United States travel restrictions on Iranian nationals from 2017.
